How it works

1. Activate Trench Behemoth by returning Scoured Barrens from the battlefield to your hand, untapping it.
2. Play Scoured Barrens, triggering it and Fastbond.
3. Resolve the Scoured Barrens trigger, causing you to gain 1 life.
4. Resolve the Fastbond trigger, dealing 1 damage to you.
5. Repeat.

This vintage loop turns the life-draining drawback of Fastbond into a net positive by creating a self-sustaining engine. With Fastbond allowing you to play any number of lands, you can continuously drop Scoured Barrens, triggering its lifegain ability to comfortably offset the 1 damage Fastbond inflicts upon you for each extra land. To keep the cycle going, Trench Behemoth steps in by letting you bounce that very same Scoured Barrens back to your hand as an activation cost, which simultaneously untaps the Behemoth so you can repeat the process indefinitely.
