How it works

1. Cast Whitemane Lion by paying 0 and 2 life due to Defiler of Faith and Pearl Medallion.
2. Defiler of Faith triggers, creating a 1/1 Soldier creature token.
3. When the Soldier enters, Leyline of Vitality triggers, causing you to gain life.
4. Resolve Whitemane Lion. When it enters, it and Leyline of Vitality trigger.
5. Resolve the Whitemane Lion trigger, returning it from the battlefield to your hand.
6. Resolve the Leyline of Vitality trigger, causing you to gain life.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Whitemane Lion into a completely free, self-returning spell by combining Defiler of Faith and Pearl Medallion to eliminate its mana cost entirely, allowing you to pay for it with 2 life instead. As the Lion repeatedly enters the battlefield, its own trigger bounces it right back to your hand while simultaneously fueling Defiler of Faith to spawn endless 1/1 Soldier creature tokens. Every time one of those tokens arrives, Leyline of Vitality notices the commotion and pads your life total back up, turning what looks like a life-paying cost into a net-neutral or positive engine that floods the board and sky-highs your storm count.
