How it works

1. Activate Tawnos's second ability by paying 1, tapping it and sacrificing two artifact tokens, exiling Pestermite from your graveyard and creating a token copy of it that is an artifact in addition to its other types.
2. When the Pestermite token enters, it triggers, untapping Tawnos.
3. Activate Tawnos's first ability by paying 2 and tapping it, creating a copy of the Pestermite token and causing you to mill two cards.
4. When the Pestermite token enters, it triggers, untapping Tawnos.
5. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing a Pestermite token, adding CC.
6. Repeat from step 3.

This clever loop transforms Tawnos, Solemn Survivor into a tireless engine for copying and recycling artifacts, fueled initially by a sacrificed pair of token fodder. By using Tawnos's heavy-costed resurrection ability to pluck Pestermite out of your graveyard, you instantly generate an entering permanent whose reflexive trigger untaps Tawnos, leaving it primed and ready. From there, Tawnos's first ability can continuously replicate that Pestermite token while Ashnod's Altar stands ready to sacrifice the extras for the colorless mana needed to keep the cycle spinning.
