How it works

1. Activate Tawnos's second ability by paying 1, tapping it and sacrificing two artifact tokens, exiling Breaching Hippocamp from your graveyard and creating a token copy of it that is an artifact in addition to its other types.
2. When the Breaching Hippocamp token enters, it triggers, untapping Tawnos.
3. Activate Tawnos's first ability by paying 2 and tapping it, creating a copy of the Breaching Hippocamp token and causing you to mill two cards.
4. When the Breaching Hippocamp token enters, it triggers, untapping Tawnos.
5. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing a Breaching Hippocamp token, adding CC.
6. Repeat from step 3.

This clever loop relies on Tawnos, Solemn Survivor acting as both a copy engine and a graveyard-to-battlefield translator, using its first ability to continually replicate an artifact-type copy of Breaching Hippocamp that was originally set up through its powerful second ability. Every time a Breaching Hippocamp token enters the battlefield, its triggered ability untaps Tawnos so you can keep cloning it, while Ashnod's Altar conveniently turns those extra tokens into the raw mana needed to sustain the process and fuel Tawnos's first ability. Because the hippocamps become artifacts in addition to their other types, they can also serve as the sacrificial fodder required to kickstart the whole sequence with Tawnos's sorcery-speed ability.
