How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Kithkin Spellduster
2. When Kithkin Spellduster dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Kithkin Spellduster enters, Stalwart Successor triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Kithkin Spellduster
4. Repeat.

This clever loop transforms a humble insect-hunter into an endless engine of sacrifice and growth by exploiting the interaction between counters and resurrection. When Kithkin Spellduster is fed to Ashnod's Altar, its persist ability brings it back with a -1/-1 counter, but Stalwart Successor steps in to counteract that penalty by placing a fresh +1/+1 counter on it as the first counters placed on the creature that turn. Because state-based actions naturally cause these opposing +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters to annihilate each other, Kithkin Spellduster is left with a clean slate ready to be sacrificed all over again for an endless supply of colorless mana.
