How it works

1. Activate Thermopod by sacrificing Trapjaw Kelpie.
2. When Trapjaw Kelpie dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Thran Vigil triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Trapjaw Kelpie.
4. Repeat.

This loop turns the snow-fueled sacrifice outlet Thermopod into a veritable engine of resurrection, using Trapjaw Kelpie as both the fuel and the recurring phoenix. Every time Trapjaw Kelpie meets its fiery end, its persist ability brings it back bearing a -1/-1 counter, but Thran Vigil steps in during your turn to counteract this fate by placing a +1/+1 counter on it as it leaves the graveyard. These two opposing counters elegantly annihilate each other through state-based actions, leaving the Kelpie pristine and ready to be thrown into Thermopod's furnace once more for endless red mana and triggered abilities.
