How it works

5. When Strangleroot Geist dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
6. Strangleroot Geist enters and dies as a state-based action due to having 0 toughness. Its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
7. Resolve the Bartolomé del Presidio ability from step 4.
8. Repeat from step 4.

This clever loop turns the back-and-forth nature of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight into an engine of endless sacrifices by granting your creatures persist from its Isilu face. By feeding Strangleroot Geist to Bartolomé del Presidio, you trigger a wonderful counter-cancellation quirk: when the Geist returns with a -1/-1 counter from persist, it immediately checks state-based actions and dies, only for its inherent undying ability to bring it right back with a fresh +1/+1 counter.
