How it works

1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Yosei.
2. When Yosei dies, it and Gift of Immortality trigger.
3. Resolve the Yosei trigger, causing the next player in turn order to skip their next untap step.
4. Resolve the Gift of Immortality trigger, returning Yosei from your graveyard to the battlefield.
5. At the beginning of the end step, Gift of Immortality triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield attached to Yosei.
6. Repeat during each turn unless you are the next player in turn order.

This sinister loop locks your opponents completely out of the game by taking advantage of Yosei, the Morning Star and its recursive partnership with Gift of Immortality. Each time you sacrifice Yosei to Phyrexian Altar, its death trigger locks down up to five permanents and forces the targeted player to skip their next untap step, while Gift of Immortality seamlessly returns Yosei straight back to the battlefield to do it all over again. Because the Altar provides a sacrifice outlet that also generates the mana you need (or simply lets you loop for free), you can perpetually repeat this cycle across multiple turns to deny your opponents both their untapped resources and their entire untap step.
