How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing another nontoken creature that doesn't have flying.
2. When the creature dies, Luminous Broodmoth triggers, returning the creature from your graveyard to the battlefield with a flying counter on it.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing the creature with a flying counter on it.
4. When the creature dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
5. Repeat.

This clever engine turns your creature suite into a self-sustaining sacrifice loop by exploiting Luminous Broodmoth and the persist ability granted by Isilu, Carrier of Twilight (the reverse side of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn). Whenever a grounded creature dies, Luminous Broodmoth returns it to the battlefield with a flying counter, which then allows Ashnod's Altar to sacrifice it anew; when that creature dies a second time, its newly gained persist ability brings it back with a -1/-1 counter. Because counters annihilate each other, the next resurrection from Luminous Broodmoth will strip the negative counter clean off, allowing the cycle to repeat indefinitely while Ashnod's Altar churns out boundless colorless mana alongside an endless storm of death triggers.
