How it works

  1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing another nontoken creature that doesn't have flying.
  2. When the creature dies, Luminous Broodmoth triggers, returning the creature from your graveyard to the battlefield with a flying counter on it.
  3. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing the creature with a flying counter on it.
  4. When the creature dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
  5. Resolve the Shilgengar abilities from step 1 and 3.
  6. Repeat.

This clever loop relies on the brilliant synergy between Luminous Broodmoth and Isilu, Carrier of Twilight (the back face of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn), which tag-team to recycle your creatures endlessly. Because Luminous Broodmoth only triggers on creatures *without* flying, it catches a sacrificed creature the first time it dies and returns it with a flying counter; once it has that flying counter, Isilu, Carrier of Twilight steps in to grant it persist, bringing it back with a -1/-1 counter the next time it hits the graveyard. Shilgengar, Sire of Famine acts as the engine for this continuous cycle, providing a sacrifice outlet that converts each loop of your creatures into a steady stream of Blood tokens.
