How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Syndicate Messenger, adding CC.
2. When Syndicate Messenger dies, its afterlife ability and Nim Deathmantle trigger.
3. Resolve the Syndicate Messenger trigger, creating a 1/1 Spirit creature token.
4. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing the Spirit, adding CC.
5. Resolve the Nim Deathmantle trigger from step 2, causing you to pay 4 to return Syndicate Messenger from your graveyard to the battlefield, and attach Nim Deathmantle to it.
6. Repeat.

This clever loop transforms Syndicate Messenger into an endless engine for sacrifice and resurrection. By feeding the bird into Ashnod's Altar, you generate the exact amount of colorless mana needed to pay for Nim Deathmantle's triggered ability when the creature dies. Meanwhile, the Messenger's afterlife ability provides an expendable Spirit token to fuel the Altar while you wait for the Deathmantle's resurrection trigger to resolve.
