How it works

1. If Grim Poppet has any -1/-1 counters on it, activate it by removing a -1/-1 counter from it.
2. Repeat step 1 as necessary until Grim Poppet has no -1/-1 counters on it.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Grim Poppet.
4. When Grim Poppet dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
5. Repeat.
6. Resolve all Grim Poppet abilities, putting infinite -1/-1 counters on any number of creatures.

By utilizing Grim Poppet's activated ability, you strip away its own -1/-1 counters until it's vulnerable, then feed it to Ashnod's Altar to generate colorless mana. When Grim Poppet dies, persist returns it to the battlefield with a fresh -1/-1 counter, fueling an endless engine that wipes out enemy boards and generates infinite resources.
