How it works
Cause a creature to enter the battlefield under your control.
Halana triggers, causing you to pay 2 to have that creature deal damage equal to its power to Polyraptor.
Polyraptor triggers.
Holding priority, activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Polyraptor, adding CC.
Resolve the Polyraptor trigger, creating a token copy of it.
When the Polyraptor token enters the battlefield, Halana triggers, causing you to pay 2 to have the Polyraptor token deal damage equal to its power to itself.
Repeat from step 3.
This dynamic loop transforms self-inflicted damage into an ever-multiplying horde. Halana, Kessig Ranger provides the crucial trigger whenever a creature enters the battlefield, allowing you to pay mana to ping your own board—specifically targeting Polyraptor with that power-based damage. Every time Polyraptor takes damage, its enrage ability steps in to spawn an exact token copy of itself, while Ashnod's Altar stands ready to sacrifice the original to fuel Halana's next fee with the generated colorless mana. Because each newly entering token immediately triggers Halana, Kessig Ranger all over again, you can repeat this process indefinitely to flood the battlefield with an endless swarm of dinosaurs and sacrifices.
