How it works

1. Cast Walking Ballista by paying 1, causing it to enter the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
2. Activate Together Forever by paying 1, targeting Walking Ballista.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Walking Ballista, adding CC.
4. When Walking Ballista dies, Together Forever triggers, returning Walking Ballista from your graveyard to your hand.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Ashnod's Altar and Together Forever into a self-sustaining engine by capitalizing on Walking Ballista entering with a +1/+1 counter for just a single mana, a cost reduced directly by Herald of Kozilek's passive discount on colorless spells. Once Walking Ballista is on the field, you activate Together Forever to tag it for resurrection, then sacrifice it to Ashnod's Altar to generate the exact colorless mana needed to recast it and repeat the cycle.
