How it works
Give Hornet Nest indestructible, if needed.
Cause a creature to enter the battlefield under your control.
Halana triggers, causing you to pay 2 to have that creature deal damage equal to its power to Hornet Nest.
Hornet Nest triggers, causing you to create a number of 1/1 Insect creature tokens equal to the damage dealt.
When the Insect(s) enters the battlefield, Halana triggers that many times.
Holding priority, activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing an Insect, adding CC.
Resolve the Halana trigger, causing you to pay 2 to deal 1 damage to Hornet Nest.
Repeat from step 4.
This clever loop turns damage into an ever-expanding swarm by leveraging Hornet Nest as the ultimate lightning rod, spitting out 1/1 flying deathtouch Insects whenever it takes damage. Halana, Kessig Ranger provides the targeted removal engine, letting your newly minted bugs trigger repeated damage pings against the Nest at the cost of {2} per activation. Ashnod's Altar acts as the financial engine of the operation, cleanly sacrificing those very same Insects to generate the colorless mana needed to pay Halana's ability fee while fueling an infinite cascade of sacrifice and entry triggers.
