How it works
Give Broodhatch Nantuko indestructible, if needed.
Cause a creature to enter the battlefield under your control.
Halana triggers, causing you to pay 2 to have that creature deal damage equal to its power to Broodhatch Nantuko.
Broodhatch Nantuko triggers, causing you to create a number of 1/1 Insect creature tokens equal to the damage dealt.
When the Insect(s) enters the battlefield, Halana triggers that many times.
Holding priority, activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing an Insect, adding CC.
Resolve the Halana trigger, causing you to pay 2 to deal 1 damage to Broodhatch Nantuko.
Repeat from step 4.
This clever loop turns Halana, Kessig Ranger into a damage-dealing engine that targets your own Broodhatch Nantuko, which reacts by flooding the board with 1/1 Insect tokens whenever it takes damage. Each time those tokens arrive, Halana, Kessig Ranger triggers anew, allowing you to feed the newly spawned insects directly into Ashnod's Altar to generate the exact colorless mana needed to keep paying for Halana's ability. As Broodhatch Nantuko continues to absorb 1 damage at a time and spit out more tokens, Ashnod's Altar converts that renewable swarm into infinite sacrifices, enter-the-battlefield triggers, and mana.
