How it works
Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing another nontoken green Insect.
When the Insect dies, Zask and Verdant Succession trigger.
Resolve the Zask trigger, putting the Insect on the bottom of your library from your graveyard and causing you to mill two cards.
Resolve the Verdant Succession trigger, searching your library for that Insect and putting it onto the battlefield.
Repeat.
This elegant little loop turns a single green Insect into an engine of continuous recycling and mana production by sacrificing it to Ashnod's Altar for a pair of colorless mana. Because the sacrificed creature is both green and a nontoken, Verdant Succession immediately triggers to fetch a fresh copy straight from your library, while Zask, Skittering Swarmlord steps in to catch the dying card and tuck it safely back onto the bottom of your library with a bonus mill. Repeating this cycle feeds you an endless stream of sacrifice and death triggers while fueling your graveyard, ultimately letting you churn through your entire deck at will.
