How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Knight of the Last Breath, adding CC.
2. When Knight of the Last Breath dies, its afterlife ability and Nim Deathmantle trigger.
3. Resolve the Knight of the Last Breath trigger, creating three 1/1 Spirit creature tokens.
4. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing a Spirit, adding CC.
5. Resolve the Nim Deathmantle trigger from step 2, causing you to pay 4 to return Knight of the Last Breath from your graveyard to the battlefield, and attach Nim Deathmantle to it.
6. Repeat.

This engine turns the self-sacrificing nature of Knight of the Last Breath into a loop by leaning entirely on Ashnod's Altar to fund the resurrection. When you sacrifice the Knight to the Altar for two colorless mana, it triggers both its own afterlife ability and the reanimation clause on Nim Deathmantle. The three Spirit tokens created by the afterlife trigger give you enough material to feed back into Ashnod's Altar for the remaining mana needed, allowing you to pay Nim Deathmantle's four-mana cost to bring the Knight right back to the battlefield equipped and ready to repeat the cycle.
