How it works

1. During your upkeep, activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Kuldotha Phoenix, adding CC.
2. When Kuldotha Phoenix dies, Pawn of Ulamog triggers, creating a 0/1 Eldrazi Spawn creature token.
3. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing the Eldrazi Spawn, adding CC.
4. Activate Kuldotha Phoenix by paying 4, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Ashnod's Altar into a reliable engine for recycling Kuldotha Phoenix directly from your graveyard during your upkeep. Whenever you sacrifice the Phoenix to the Altar, Pawn of Ulamog steps in to generate an Eldrazi Spawn token, which you then sacrifice to the very same Altar to help fund the Phoenix's metalcraft resurrection cost. Because the Altar generates two mana each time while the Phoenix only costs four to return, this self-sustaining cycle feeds endlessly upon itself to generate infinite sacrifices, enters-the-battlefield triggers, and leaves-the-battlefield triggers.
