How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing the persist creature.
2. When the persist creature dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When the persist creature enters, Good-Fortune Unicorn triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on the persist creature.
4. Repeat

This clever loop relies on the counter-canceling synergy between a creature with persist and Good-Fortune Unicorn, which steps in to place a +1/+1 counter whenever the creature enters the battlefield, neutralizing the -1/+1 counter it returns with. By feeding that same creature into Ashnod's Altar, you sacrifice it to generate a steady stream of colorless mana while simultaneously sending it back to the graveyard to restart the trigger. Because the Unicorn continuously resets the creature's counter state upon re-entry, the cycle can repeat indefinitely, yielding endless sacrifice and death triggers alongside a massive reserve of mana.
