How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Elegant Edgecrafters.
2. When Elegant Edgecrafters dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Elegant Edgecrafters enters, its fabricate ability triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. Repeat.

This clever loop relies on the transforming front and back of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight to grant persistent immortality across the board, giving every other nontoken creature you control the persist ability. When you feed Elegant Edgecrafters to Ashnod's Altar, its death triggers the persist granted by Isilu, Carrier of Twilight to return it with a -1/-1 counter, while the altar conveniently pads your mana pool with colorless energy. As Elegant Edgecrafters re-enters the battlefield, its fabricate 2 ability triggers to drop a +1/+1 counter on it; state-based actions immediately cause that +1/+1 counter and the -1/+1 counter to annihilate each other, leaving the Edgecrafters completely clean and ready to be sacrificed to Ashnod's Altar all over again.
