How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Essenceknit Scholar, adding CC.
2. When Essenceknit Scholar dies, Nim Deathmantle triggers, causing you to pay 4 to return Essenceknit Scholar from your graveyard to the battlefield and attach Nim Deathmantle to it.
3. When Essenceknit Scholar enters, it triggers, creating a creature token.
4. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing a creature token, adding CC.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop harnesses Ashnod's Altar as both the sacrifice outlet and the primary engine, generating the mana needed to keep the cycle going. When you feed Essenceknit Scholar to the Altar, Nim Deathmantle steps in to resurrect the scholar directly onto the battlefield for the exact cost of four mana. That recursive entry immediately triggers Essenceknit Scholar to spawn a fresh Pest token, which you can then feed back into Ashnod's Altar to secure the remaining mana for the Deathmantle's trigger.
