How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Shambling Ghast, adding CC.
2. When Shambling Ghast dies, it and Rakdos trigger.
3. Resolve the Shambling Ghast trigger, creating a Treasure token.
4. Activate the Treasure by tapping and sacrificing it, adding .
5. Holding priority, activate Haunted Crossroads by paying , putting Shambling Ghast from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
6. Resolve the Rakdos trigger, exiling Shambling Ghast from the top of your library with the ability to cast it until your next turn.
7. Cast Shambling Ghast from exile by paying 1.
8. Repeat.

This loop is a masterclass in recycling, turning Ashnod's Altar into a relentless engine fueled by sacrifice. By feeding Shambling Ghast to the altar, you generate the necessary colorless mana while triggering the creature's death ability to create a Treasure token. That Treasure is immediately cracked for black mana, which pays the activation cost of Haunted Crossroads to place Shambling Ghast right back on top of your library. Meanwhile, Rakdos, the Muscle catches the sacrifice by exiling the ghast from the library into a castable state, allowing you to redeploy it and repeat the cycle indefinitely.
