How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Marionette Apprentice.
2. When Marionette Apprentice dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Marionette Apprentice enters, its fabricate ability triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. Repeat.

This clever loop centers around Isilu, Carrier of Twilight—the backside of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn—whose static ability grants persist to all your other nontoken creatures. When you sacrifice Marionette Apprentice to Ashnod's Altar for a burst of colorless mana, its persist ability brings it back with a -1/-1 counter, which is immediately canceled out by the +1/+1 counter from its own fabricate ability. Because this counter-cancellation resets its clean slate, you can repeat the sacrifice endlessly, letting Marionette Apprentice's drain trigger continuously to bleed your opponents dry while generating infinite mana.
