How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing the persist creature.
2. When the persist creature dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Thunderous Velocipede.
3. Repeat.

This clever engine sets up an infinite loop of sacrifice and rebirth by pairing a creature with the persist mechanic alongside Thunderous Velocipede. Because Thunderous Velocipede bestows additional +1/+1 counters to creatures entering the battlefield, it perfectly neutralizes the -1/-1 counter that would normally cripple a persist creature upon its return. You simply feed that endlessly recurring creature into Ashnod's Altar, harvesting an unlimited supply of colorless mana while generating infinite death triggers, enters-the-battlefield events, and sacrifice counts to overwhelm your opponents.
