How it works

1. Activate Thermopod's second ability by sacrificing Gollum, adding .
2. When Gollum dies, it and Ratadrabik trigger.
3. Resolve the Ratadrabik trigger, creating a nonlegendary token copy of Gollum that is a 2/2 Zombie in addition to its other types.
4. Resolve the Gollum trigger from step 2, causing the Ring to tempt you, and for the Gollum token to become your Ring-bearer, thus making it legendary.
5. Repeat.

This brilliant loop turns Thermopod into a devastating mana engine by leveraging Ratadrabik of Urborg's ability to duplicate dying legends as nonlegendary Zombies. The magic truly hinges on Gollum, Patient Plotter: when sacrificed to the Thermopod, Gollum's leaving-the-battlefield trigger causes the Ring to tempt you, making the newly created Gollum token your Ring-bearer and thus turning it legendary. This clever rules interaction bypasses Ratadrabik's "nonlegendary" restriction for future iterations, allowing you to continually sacrifice the token copy back to Thermopod to generate infinite red mana, along with an endless stream of death, entry, leaving-the-battlefield, and sacrifice triggers.
