How it works

1. Activate Umbral Collar Zealot by sacrificing Forsaken Miner.
2. If able, activate Crystalline Crawler's first ability by removing a +1/+1 counter from it, adding .
3. Activate Walking Ballista by removing a +1/+1 counter from it, targeting an opponent or a permanent an opponent controls.
4. When you commit that crime, Forsaken Miner triggers, causing you to pay to return Forsaken Miner from your graveyard to the battlefield.
5. When Forsaken Miner enters the battlefield, Celes's second ability triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control.
6. Resolve the Walking Ballista ability from step 3.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Walking Ballista into a criminal mastermind by using its ping ability to target an opponent, which triggers Forsaken Miner's ability to return itself from the graveyard for a single black mana. To fund that crime, Crystalline Crawler sacrifices its own +1/+1 counters for mana, while Umbral Collar Zealot provides the initial sacrifice outlet to get the Miner into the graveyard and lets you surveil along the way. Every time Forsaken Miner returns to the battlefield, Celes, Rune Knight rewards you by placing a +1/+1 counter on every creature you control, which conveniently restocks Crystalline Crawler and fuels Walking Ballista to repeat the carnage infinitely.
