How it works

1. Activate Akul the Unrepentant by sacrificing three creatures.
2. Ashnod the Uncaring triggers, copying Akul the Unrepentant's ability.
3. Resolve the copy of Akul the Unrepentant's ability, putting Abhorrent Overlord from your hand onto the battlefield.
4. When Abhorrent Overlord enters the battlefield, it and Cloudstone Curio trigger.
5. Resolve the Abhorrent Overlord trigger, creating a number of 1/1 Harpy creature tokens equal to your devotion to black.
6. When the Harpys enter the battlefield, Cloudstone Curio triggers that many times, returning nothing to your hand from the battlefield.
7. Resolve the Cloudstone Curio trigger from step 4, returning Akul the Unrepentant from the battlefield to your hand.
8. Resolve Akul the Unrepentant's ability from step 1, putting it onto the battlefield from your hand.
9. When Akul the Unrepentant enters the battlefield, Cloudstone Curio triggers, returning Abhorrent Overlord from the battlefield to your hand.
10. Repeat.

This marvelous loop turns Akul the Unrepentant into a heavily fortified gateway by leveraging Ashnod the Uncaring to double up on its sacrifice-heavy activation, flooding the board with free bodies while neatly sidestepping restrictions. As Abhorrent Overlord enters the battlefield to generate an overwhelming flock of Harpy tokens through devotion to black, Cloudstone Curio watches the entry parade and orchestrates a continuous hand-and-field dance. By bouncing Akul the Unrepentant and the Overlord back and forth to each other's hands, the Curio allows you to endlessly replay your heavy hitters, fueling a perpetual cycle of sacrifices, entries, and departures.
