How it works

1. Activate Bloodflow Connoisseur by sacrificing Wingrattle Scarecrow.
2. When Wingrattle Scarecrow dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Hardened Academic triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Wingrattle Scarecrow.
4. Resolve the Bloodflow Connoisseur ability.
5. Repeat.

This loop relies on the brilliant interplay between the sacrifice outlet and the creature's own mechanics, fueled entirely by the clever support of a third piece. When Bloodflow Connoisseur sacrifices Wingrattle Scarecrow, the Scarecrow's persist ability brings it back from the graveyard with a -1/-1 counter, which normally spells the end of its recursive journey. However, every time a card leaves your graveyard to return via persist, Hardened Academic's triggered ability steps in to place a +1/+1 counter on a creature you control, targeting the Scarecrow. As state-based actions check the battlefield, the +1/+1 counter and the -1/-1 counter annihilate each other and both vanish, leaving Wingrattle Scarecrow completely clean and ready to be sacrificed to Bloodflow Connoisseur all over again for infinitely recurring value.
