How it works
- Activate Thermopod by sacrificing Spiteful Squad.
- When Spiteful Squad dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to its replacement effect.
- Repeat.
This brilliant loop transforms Isilu, Carrier of Twilight's passive gift of persist into an engine of endless power, granting your creatures eternal life as they march through the graveyard. When you sacrifice Spiteful Squad to Thermopod, it generates red mana while triggering its own death ability to pass along its counters, and thanks to Isilu, Carrier of Twilight's static ability, it immediately returns to the battlefield to do it all over again. Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn anchors the early game by giving your creature spells convoke, perfectly setting the stage before you ever flip to its twilight side to start the sacrifice chain.
