How it works

1. Activate Carrion Feeder by sacrificing Obstinate Gargoyle.
2. When Obstinate Gargoyle dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Thran Vigil triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Obstinate Gargoyle.
4. Resolve the Carrion Feeder ability.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop begins by using Carrion Feeder to regularly sacrifice Obstinate Gargoyle, sending the gargoyle to the graveyard where its persist ability immediately triggers to bring it right back with a -1/-1 counter. Because Obstinate Gargoyle leaves the graveyard during your turn, Thran Vigil triggers and places a +1/+1 counter on a creature you control, which expertly neutralizes the -1/-1 counter through state-based actions so the persist cycle can repeat endlessly. Meanwhile, Carrion Feeder feasts on this endless rotation, growing infinitely large with +1/+1 counters as it generates an unbounded stream of sacrifices, deaths, and enters-the-battlefield triggers.
