How it works

1. Activate Bloodflow Connoisseur by sacrificing Obstinate Gargoyle.
2. When Obstinate Gargoyle dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Thran Vigil triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Obstinate Gargoyle.
4. Resolve the Bloodflow Connoisseur ability.
5. Repeat.

This loop turns a modest recycling engine into an ever-growing threat by exploiting how counters interact with persist. When you sacrifice Obstinate Gargoyle to Bloodflow Connoisseur, the Gargoyle's persist ability brings it straight back to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter, which conveniently causes it to leave the graveyard and triggers Thran Vigil. Thran Vigil immediately places a +1/+1 counter on the Gargoyle, fulfilling the condition for Obstinate Gargoyle's static ability to grant it flying while simultaneously neutralizing the -1/-1 counter through state-based actions so the persist safety valve resets for the next iteration.
