How it works

1. Activate Goblin Bombardment by sacrificing Safehold Elite.
2. When Safehold Elite dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Thran Vigil triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Safehold Elite.
4. Resolve the Goblin Bombardment ability.
5. Repeat.

This loop transforms a humble common into an endless engine of destruction by exploiting how +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters interact on the battlefield. When you sacrifice Safehold Elite to Goblin Bombardment, its persist ability brings it right back with a debilitating -1/-1 counter, but Thran Vigil swoops in as the graveyard's guardian to instantly neutralize that penalty by placing a +1/+1 counter on it. Because state-based actions instantly annihilate matching pairs of +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters, Safehold Elite is left completely clean and ready to be sacrificed to the Bombardment all over again for infinite damage.
