How it works

1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Rendclaw Trow.
2. When Rendclaw Trow dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Thran Vigil triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Rendclaw Trow.
4. Resolve the Shilgengar ability.
5. Repeat.

This clever engine turns the fragile cycle of life and death into an endless reservoir of resources, anchored by Shilgengar, Sire of Famine and its ability to trade living creatures for Blood tokens. When you feed Rendclaw Trow to Shilgengar, the Trow's persist ability brings it straight back from the graveyard, while Thran Vigil neatly counters its new -1/-1 counter by placing a +1/+1 counter on it instead. Because these opposing counters instantly annihilate each other through state-based actions, Rendclaw Trow remains entirely clean of counters and ready to be sacrificed all over again.
