How it works

1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Grazing Kelpie.
2. When Grazing Kelpie dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. Thran Vigil triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Grazing Kelpie.
4. Resolve the Shilgengar ability.
5. Repeat.

This gruesome cycle turns the relentless self-sacrifice of Grazing Kelpie into an engine of endless rebirth, all orchestrated by Shilgengar, Sire of Famine's morbid ability to render Blood tokens from the fallen. Every time the Kelpie hits the graveyard, its persist mechanic would normally bring it back marred by a -1/-1 counter, but Thran Vigil turns that graveyard departure into a timely intervention, placing a +1/+1 counter on the Kelpie that promptly neutralizes its lingering penalty. This allows the Kelpie to repeat the grim loop indefinitely, flooding your board with endless Blood tokens and infinitely churning through creature deaths and entries.
