How it works
- Activate Helm of Obedience by paying 1 and tapping it, causing target opponent to mill a card.
- Due to Leyline of the Void's replacement effect, the milled card is exiled instead of going to the graveyard, and that opponents repeats that process until their library is empty.
This devastating two-card pairing turns a modest milling artifact into an instant library-eater by exploiting a classic replacement effect. With Leyline of the Void sitting on your battlefield—whether from your opening hand or cast later—any card that would hit an opponent's graveyard is instead exiled. When you activate Helm of Obedience for an X of 1, it instructs the opponent to mill cards one by one until a creature card or 1 card is put into their graveyard; however, because Leyline intercepts that movement and sends the cards to exile instead, the Helm never actually registers a "creature card put into a graveyard" to stop its loop. Consequently, the opponent keeps milling until their entire library is exiled, completely dismantling their deck in one fell swoop.
