How it works

1. Activate Viscera Seer by sacrificing it.
2. When Viscera Seer dies, Mortuary and Wayward Disciple triggers if it's on the battlefield
3. Resolve the Mortuary trigger, putting Viscera Seer from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
4. Resolve the Wayward Disciple trigger, if applicable, causing you to gain 1 life and target opponent to lose 1 life.
5. Resolve the Viscera Seer ability.
6. Cast Viscera Seer from the top of your library by paying 1 life.
7. When Viscera Seer enters, Pious Evangel triggers if it's on the battlefield, causing you to gain 1 life.
8. Repeat.

This clever loop turns the top of your library into an endless revolving door for your creatures, fueled entirely by life rather than mana. With Bolas's Citadel sitting in play, you can peer into the future and cast your spells directly from your library by paying life instead of mana costs. You sacrifice Viscera Seer to its own ability, sending it to the graveyard where Mortuary instantly catches it and tucks it right back onto the top of your library. As the Seer repeatedly departs and returns, Pious Evangel—or its transformed reverse side, Wayward Disciple—buffers your life total and drains your opponents dry with every single death, entry, and sacrifice trigger.
