How it works

1. Activate Blood Pet by sacrificing it.
2. When Blood Pet dies, Mortuary and Moonlit Wake trigger.
3. Resolve the Mortuary trigger, putting Blood Pet from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
4. Resolve the Moonlit Wake trigger, causing you to gain 1 life
5. Cast Blood Pet from the top of your library by paying 1 life.
6. Repeat.

This clever engine turns the life-payment mechanic of Bolas's Citadel completely upside down by pairing it with Mortuary's library manipulation. While Bolas's Citadel normally drains your life total as you cast spells from the top of your library, Moonlit Wake steps in to completely neutralize that cost each time Blood Pet dies and returns to the top of your library. Because Blood Pet provides the black mana needed to recast itself—and Moonlit Wake simultaneously refunds the life you paid via Bolas's Citadel—Mortuary creates an endlessly looping cycle that generates infinite black mana, death triggers, and storm count without ever running out of life or cards.
