How it works

1. Activate Goblin Firestarter by sacrificing it.
2. When Goblin Firestarter dies, Mortuary and Al Bhed Salvagers trigger.
3. Resolve the Mortuary trigger, putting Goblin Firestarter from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
4. Resolve the Al Bhed Salvagers trigger, causing you to gain 1 life and target opponent to lose 1 life.
5. Resolve the Goblin Firestarter ability.
6. Cast Goblin Firestarter from the top of your library by paying 1 life.
7. Repeat.

This ingenious loop turns a humble Goblin Firestarter into a recursive weapon, fueled entirely by life rather than mana. With Bolas's Citadel sitting on the board, you can cast that same Goblin Firestarter directly from the top of your library over and over, paying a mere 1 life each time thanks to the Citadel's alternative cost. Every time you sacrifice the Goblin, Mortuary swoops in to intercept it from the graveyard, placing it right back on top of your library to maintain the endless fuel supply. Meanwhile, Al Bhed Salvagers acts as your ultimate payoff, draining your opponents' life totals and padding your own life buffer with every single death iteration.
