How it works

1. Activate Goblin Firestarter by sacrificing it.
2. When Goblin Firestarter dies, Mortuary and Syr Vondam trigger.
3. Resolve the Mortuary trigger, putting Goblin Firestarter from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
4. Resolve the Syr Vondam trigger, causing you to gain 1 life and putting a +1/+1 counter on Syr Vondam.
5. Resolve the Goblin Firestarter ability.
6. Cast Goblin Firestarter from the top of your library by paying 1 life.
7. Repeat.

This elegant loop turns a humble Goblin Firestarter into an infinite life and damage engine by leveraging the passive deck-manipulation of Bolas's Citadel and the recycling power of Mortuary. Because Bolas's Citadel lets you cast spells from the top of your library by paying life instead of mana, you can repeatedly recast the Firestarter for a mere 1 life each iteration. Every time the Goblin is sacrificed, Mortuary ensures it goes straight back to the top of your library, while Syr Vondam, Sunstar Exemplar triggers off the creature's death to continuously pad your life total and grow its own power with +1/+1 counters.
