How it works

1. Activate Bartolomé del Presidio by sacrificing Golgari Thug.
2. When Golgari Thug dies, it and Vein Ripper trigger.
3. Resolve the Golgari Thug trigger, putting it from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
4. Resolve the Vein Ripper trigger, causing you to gain 2 life and target opponent to lose 2 life.
5. Resolve the Bartolomé del Presidio ability.
6. Cast Golgari Thug from the top of your library by paying 2 life.
7. Repeat.

This loop creates a self-sustaining engine by turning life into a resource while manipulating your library. With Bolas's Citadel in play, you can bypass normal mana costs to repeatedly cast Golgari Thug straight from the top of your library for a mere 2 life, which is easily offset by the life gained when Vein Ripper triggers upon a creature's death. You then feed Golgari Thug to Bartolomé del Presidio, triggering the Thug's dredge-like replacement ability to stack itself right back onto the library while pumping Bartolomé del Presidio with +1/+1 counters.
