How it works

1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing a creature with mana value 1 or less.
2. When the creature dies, Mortuary triggers, putting the creature from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
3. Resolve the Shilgengar ability.
4. Cast the creature from the top of your library by paying 1 life.
5. Bontu's Monument triggers, causing you to gain 1 life and each opponent to lose 1 life.
6. Repeat.

This loop transforms a tiny sacrifice into an overwhelming engine of attrition, fueled entirely from the top of your library. By sacrificing a cheap creature to Shilgengar, Sire of Famine, you trigger Mortuary to immediately stack that exact card back onto your library, bypassing the graveyard entirely. From there, Bolas's Citadel allows you to recast that creature directly using life instead of mana, turning Bontu's Monument into a relentless drain on your opponents while simultaneously offsetting the Citadel's life payment.
