How it works

1. Activate Fanatical Firebrand by tapping and sacrificing it.
2. When Fanatical Firebrand dies, Mortuary and Panicked Bystander // Cackling Culprit trigger.
3. Resolve the Mortuary trigger, putting Fanatical Firebrand from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
4. Resolve the Panicked Bystander // Cackling Culprit trigger, causing you to gain 1 life
5. Resolve the Fanatical Firebrand ability.
6. Cast Fanatical Firebrand from the top of your library by paying 1 life.
7. Repeat.

This looping engine transforms the top of your library into an endless armory, fueled entirely by life rather than mana. Bolas's Citadel grants you permission to cast Fanatical Firebrand directly from your library, substituting its mana value with a mere 1 life payment. Once cast, you sacrifice Fanatical Firebrand to activate its damage ability, which promptly sends it to the graveyard. That death immediately triggers Mortuary to recycle the goblin straight back to the top of your library while Panicked Bystander // Cackling Culprit offsets the life paid to the Citadel by granting you 1 life.
