How it works
- Activate Myr Scrapling by sacrificing it.
- When Myr Scrapling dies, Mortuary and Popular Egotist trigger.
- Resolve the Mortuary trigger, putting Myr Scrapling from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
- Resolve the Popular Egotist trigger, causing you to gain 1 life and target opponent to lose 1 life.
- Resolve the Myr Scrapling ability.
- Cast Myr Scrapling from the top of your library by paying 1 life.
- Repeat.
This loop turns life into a perpetual motion machine by leveraging Bolas's Citadel to cast creatures straight from the top of your library for life instead of mana. When Myr Scrapling is sacrificed, Mortuary immediately intercepts it on the way to the graveyard, recycling the artifact creature right back to the top of the library where Bolas's Citadel needs it. Meanwhile, Popular Egotist acts as the payoff and enabler all at once, exploiting every sacrifice to drain your opponents of their life total while fueling its own survival.
