How it works

1. Activate Myr Scrapling by sacrificing it.
2. When Myr Scrapling dies, Mortuary and Syr Vondam trigger.
3. Resolve the Mortuary trigger, putting Myr Scrapling from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
4. Resolve the Syr Vondam trigger, causing you to gain 1 life and putting a +1/+1 counter on Syr Vondam.
5. Resolve the Myr Scrapling ability.
6. Cast Myr Scrapling from the top of your library by paying 1 life.
7. Repeat.

This elegant loop turns the self-sacrificing nature of Myr Scrapling into an engine of endless iteration, heavily subsidized by Bolas's Citadel allowing you to bypass mana costs by trading life instead. Whenever the Scrapling meets its end, Mortuary immediately catches it on the way to the graveyard and places it right back on top of your library, perfectly positioned for the Citadel to replay it. Meanwhile, Syr Vondam, Sunstar Exemplar sits on the board to catch every single death trigger, padding your life total to continuously offset the life cost of recasting the Scrapling while distributing a ceaseless stream of +1/+1 counters.
