How it works

1. Activate Fanatical Firebrand by tapping and sacrificing it.
2. When Fanatical Firebrand dies, Mortuary and Al Bhed Salvagers trigger.
3. Resolve the Mortuary trigger, putting Fanatical Firebrand from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
4. Resolve the Al Bhed Salvagers trigger, causing you to gain 1 life and target opponent to lose 1 life.
5. Resolve the Fanatical Firebrand ability.
6. Cast Fanatical Firebrand from the top of your library by paying 1 life.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop turns a tiny goblin into an unstoppable life-drain engine, fueled entirely by life rather than mana thanks to Bolas's Citadel letting you cast straight off the top of your library. Whenever you activate Fanatical Firebrand's sacrifice ability to deal damage, Mortuary quietly scoops it right back out of the graveyard and places it neatly back onto the top of your library. Meanwhile, Al Bhed Salvagers acts as your win condition, capitalizing on the creature's constant demise to drain away your opponents' life totals while padding your own life total to keep paying for the Citadel.
