How it works

1. Activate Grim Poppet by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Mercurial Pretender.
2. Hapatra triggers, creating a creature token.
3. Activate Mercurial Pretender by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Grim Poppet.
4. Hapatra triggers, creating a creature token.
5. Repeat.

This loop turns the internal counter-swapping of Grim Poppet into a self-sustaining engine by utilizing Mercurial Pretender as both a counter target and a flexible copy mechanism that can enter the battlefield as a copy of the Poppet.
