How it works

1. Activate Grim Poppet by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Altered Ego.
2. Hapatra triggers, creating a creature token.
3. Activate Altered Ego by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Grim Poppet.
4. Hapatra triggers, creating a creature token.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop transforms a simple exchange of counters into an endless supply of deathtouching reptiles. Because Altered Ego enters the battlefield as a copy of Grim Poppet, both creatures start with the ability to strip away their own -1/-1 counters and place them onto each other. Every time a counter is shifted this way, Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons watches the action and rewards you with a fresh Snake token. By bouncing the counters back and forth indefinitely between Grim Poppet and your copied Grim Poppet, you generate an unbounded number of creatures and enter-the-battlefield triggers.
