How it works

1. Activate Grim Poppet by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Auton Soldier.
2. Hapatra triggers, creating a creature token.
3. Activate Auton Soldier by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, putting a -1/-1 counter on Grim Poppet.
4. Hapatra triggers, creating a creature token.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop turns counter-manipulation into a self-sustaining army by having Grim Poppet and Auton Soldier continuously trade -1/-1 counters back and forth. Because Auton Soldier enters as a non-legendary copy of Grim Poppet (retaining its activated ability while gaining artifact status and myriad), both creatures can strip counters from one another and replenish them indefinitely. Every time a counter is placed in this back-and-forth process, Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons watches the action and rewards you with a steady stream of 1/1 green Snake creature tokens with deathtouch.
