How it works

1. Cast Strength of Will by paying 1, targeting Deathbringer Thoctar.
2. Activate Deathbringer Thoctar by removing a +1/+1 counter from it, dealing 1 damage to it.
3. Deathbringer Thoctar triggers, putting two +1/+1 counters on it due to Hardened Scales.
4. Activate Deathbringer Thoctar by removing a +1/+1 counter from it, dealing 1 damage to any target.
5. Repeat from step 2.

This loop turns self-inflicted pain into an infinite barrage of damage by pairing Deathbringer Thoctar's ping ability with its own death-trigger potential. Because Strength of Will grants the Thoctar indestructible and the ability to grow when dealt damage, it can safely shoot itself for 1 damage; thanks to Hardened Scales, every counter-generating event yields a net gain of counters rather than breaking even. This allows you to continually cycle counters to fuel Deathbringer Thoctar's activation, eventually letting you redirect that damage away from your own creature to wipe out any target you choose.
